Rachel's 4th Birthday!

Well, the day finally came for Rachel! She has been waiting for this birthday for a looong time! She wanted to plan, bake, decorate; no surprises for her!
We had a birthday party on Monday evening and invited some special friends: our 4 Sister Missionaries, our dear friend Sister Wood, a new friend, Chloe, from primary, and of course the Day family. She planned the evening: pizza, cake and ice cream, and fruit basket! This is her new favorite game that we play whenever we can for her sake. Sometimes just two of us play it. There's lots more pictures on our web album if you're interested: http://picasaweb.google.com/lissnjason/RachelSBirthday# She had a wonderful day, I think.
We love our Sister Missionaries!
What happens when you are the youngest and get hand-me-downs of everything? You don't really need anything on your birthday! But Rachel did get a few things she's been wanting, and even went shopping herself for some of these things. Other big news for Rachel? She has stopped sucking her thumb! She has been only sucking her thumb at night (or when she's sad or angry, or we don't notice...) but we've been telling her that when she's 4 she'll be big enough to get rid of thumb sucking (after all the dentist did say). She took it and ran. We've been putting some "yucky stuff" on her thumb, but even when we forget, she doesn't do it. She's stopped cold turkey, which is amazing! The problem: she is very, very, very, very emotional right now! She is crying about every little thing like her heart is broken and louder and longer than we've seen in a while. But we're trying to be patient; she is in withdrawals, and needs to learn some new coping skills! Wish us luck!

It looks like Rachel had a wonderful day! I love it when they want to plan everything. It is fun to see what they want to do. Good luck as you deal with her end to thumb sucking.
