On thursday, Kayla started 5th grade and Kyle started 2nd grade. Rachel started afternoon preschool on friday! We had a great summer but it's also good to get back to school.
Kayla started playing the flute in band; so she'll be lugging her instrument along with her each day (there are definitely worse instruments to carry!. She also came home with invitations to join girl scouts, Reading Orioles (a reading club at school), soccer, and Science Olympiad. Coming in the future will be Singing Orioles, Basketball, and math relay. And she still has piano practice. It's not unusual for her friends to participate in every extracurricular activity that's available. There's lots of things she wants to do, but she also wants her free time after school--big time. So, we had a nice little family home evening meeting discussing priorities and time management. She is going to focus on the added element of band this year and maybe try the other things in years to come. (She might do Singing Orioles again like last year as that doesn't take too much extra time and she enjoys it). She feels good about it but it will be hard for her when her friends start talking about all they're doing with each other and she won't be there. Fun life lesssons!
Rachel is enjoying her "4 year older" preschool class. She goes 3 days each week instead of two and she goes in the afternoon. Her teacher is Mrs. Payne and she is a wonderful lady. We've had her over for dinner several times and has become a good friend.
She's especially excited to ride the bus home from school. I think that is what she was looking forward to the most!
Kyle is doing well, considering last week he asked if I would homeschool him. Crazy kid. I think he inherited some of my anxiety but once he gets in the classroom he does just fine.
I also started teaching seminary again yesterday. It's such a great way to start each day. I adore my students. They wanted to wait until tomorrow for a picture because it's picture day at school and they'll all be beautiful, so I'll probably post a picture next week.
Life just keeps plugging along, doesn't it?

Busy Times! I played the flute and loved it. I really hope Kayla loves it too. I am sure three days a week your house seems really quite. Good luck with the new year.
