F.O.O.S.H. is what we learned on Friday. There's a name for it! Fell On OutStretched Hand. That's what Kyle did about 10 days ago while playing football with Jason in the backyard. We kept hoping and praying that it would heal itself. But yesterday we went to the Orthopedist and got the diagnosis.
It isn't a broken bone, it's a "Growth Plate Injury" in his wrist which needs to heal correctly so he can grow normally. Thankfully, he needs the cast for 3 weeks only.
He chose red! His favorite color. This is Kyle's second cast (he had a buckle fracture in kindergarten).
Can you just imagine some of the things Jason and I were feeling yesterday?
- We've got two children with casts
- We've got to hide Kayla in a closet so she doesn't get hurt
- Will people think we abuse our children? Or at the least, not protect them from harm?
- MORE medical bills!!
- MORE showers with plastic bags over arms!!
- MORE Frustration over piano practice, and other things that need two arms. (Kyle's appt. was right before lunch, so I packed lunches for them to eat when we were finished. I had the little applesauce packets that you peel off the top to eat. I asked Kyle if could please help Rachel peel the top off of hers-- then I realized he couldn't peel any better than she could :)
- Sad that Kyle was worried Jason would be mad about it, but seeing the peace come over him when I told him that it was Daddy's who insisted I make the appointment and get the x-ray, and that he would probably laugh (because of the ridiculousness of it all; which he did).
- Grateful it's only 3 weeks
- Grateful his cast only goes to below his elbow, instead of all the way up.
- Knowing these are small things compared to what many other families endure.
- The countdown: Rachel has 10 days left of her cast (hopefully) and Kyle has 3 weeks with his.
