When Kyle left for Basic Training (Boot) at the end of May, he then had to quarantine at a hotel in San Diego for 2 weeks before the actual boot camp took place. So he was actually in boot camp for 15 weeks instead of 13. He was able to call us every day during the quarantine which was nice, because after that, I didn't hear his voice until he finished the crucible.
We lit up our house with blue lights that are still there.
We wrote letters every day (snail mail) and after a few weeks we started receiving letters back. He was doing well, doing really hard things. These are pictures from his company:
There he is in the middle! It was so thrilling when the MCRD Facebook page would post pictures of Mike Company and we'd all search for Kyle in them.
He's in this one as well, you can barely see his shaved head on the right side, below and left of the palm tree.
Thanks to COVID, we couldn't go to San Diego for his graduation, as planned. No family day, no people allowed at graduation. We got to watch it on Facebook though! The day of graduation, Kyle sent these pictures. He is the top right in the picture below:
A flag flew over the US capital in his honor on the day he became a Marine:
We're so proud of what he's accomplished and all of the extremely difficult training he endured. He earned this title for sure. Unfortunately, he didn't get his "boot leave" because of COVID, and went straight to Camp Pendleton for Infantry Training for another 2 months. Isn't he handsome?!
We're a Marine Family!
