12 Years Ago Today

12 years ago today, Jason and I were out on our first date--a blind date set up by my wonderful neighbors, the Wades. We went dancing at the Bay in SLC. We had a great time despite it being one of the first few times I had danced up to that point. We saw each other several time a week after that, had lots of long talks, were engaged 4 1/2 months later and married 3 months after that. I wish I could say that things have been effortless, perfect, and blissful since then, but alas, I am much too honest for that. We came from two different families that may as well have been two different cultures, and we blended them and made our own little culture. We have had lots of ups and downs, trials, challenges, joy and pain in the last 12 years. We have added 1 marriage, 3 children, 4 moves, 13 temples visited, and many, many compromises between us. What I can say and testify of is that working hard, being humbled, and not giving up is worth it. I wouldn't trade the relationship we have now for anything. I don't expect that things will be effortless, perfect, and blissful from here on out either, but I know we won't give up, and that it will be worth it. Here's to 12 more, and beyond!

Congratulations! In all honesty I have always thought that you two made it look effortless. I remember meeting Melissa about 12 years ago. I knew then that Jason had made a great pick. I wish we were closer so that we could celebrate.

What a fun post!! That is really neat!! You two seem perfect for each other and compliment each other so well!! Marriage can be very trying and it does take a lot of work sometimes to get through the rough spots to make room for the great times!!

Congratulations! It really is amazing how fast time goes! It seems not all that long ago when we were in high school!
