Nauvoo 2009

This past weekend we were able to take one last trip to Nauvoo before my parents finish their mission there. It was very nice to go, but I was not expecting how emotional I would be, realizing we wouldn't be able to go as often without a place to stay and food provided! This was our 8th trip to Nauvoo in the last 3 years. It's been such a blessing to take our time to see everything, and to get some behind-the-scenes information. It really is an amazing place.
On Saturday morning my parents took us all to the Fun Zone, with this amazing play place. Rachel looks sad in this picture because she had just hurt her arm.

Rachel has really sensitive joints, and we have to be careful to hold her by her torso and not her arms. Jason forgot this, and helped her onto an activity by holding her arms; and her elbow and wrist were a quite sore for a couple of days. Luckily, she's all better now!

My parents no longer perform in the Nauvoo productions--the past two summers they have been the mentors for the young performing missionaries, and have been behind-the-scenes. However for Sunset on the Mississippi, my Dad was asked to reprise a role he played before, and to help out with another song. It was great to see him peform again! (He's on the right--not his real hair!)

The morning after we arrived, we walked across the street from my parents apartment to the temple where we took some pictures. I guess we had never done this the other times, because they were so excited that I let them walk up the steps!

The all-time favorite of the kids is Pioneer Pastimes, where they get to dress as pioneers and play pioneer games.

Farewell Nauvoo! We'll be back--but in a tent next time! I have lots more pictures on our web album. Many you won't appreciate unless you've been to Nauvoo. I took video of some things just so I could revisit how I felt when we were there. I feel very sentimental about Nauvoo!

One funny anecdote from our trip. Kayla somehow had a big old bruise on her foot, Rachel had her hurt arm, and Kyle woke up each morning with one swollen eye on this trip. One night it was my turn to say family prayer, and I prayed for each child to feel better from their particular ailment. I couldn't handle how pathetic it was and burst out laughing during the prayer. I will say that hasn't happened to me for a long time!
