Ahhh, The End of the School Year: Something New Every Day!

On Tuesday, it was clown day at Rachel's preschool, as part of their unit on the Circus. I was invited to help paint on their clown faces!

I looked out the window as Kyle was coming up to the door with these "flowers." (and also the mail he checks each day). He lovingly presented them to me. I asked him if I could please have fun blowing them outside instead of putting them in a vase. He thought that would be okay. Another thing about walking home from the bus stop: last week was earth day, and all the kids learned about picking up litter. They've been so diligent about picking up trash on the way home from the bus stop. Kyle was annoyed with all the "cigrettes" in front of one house, but he picked up EVERY ONE.

Last Night we went to Kyle's 1st Grade "Author's Tea." All of the 1st graders presented their writing for their families, and we had cookies and drinks. Their was a light blue jug of lemonade, and a dark blue jug of tea. Kyle was very concerned that he would accidentally drink the tea. I assured him that lemonade was yellow and tea was brownish. He walked back over to the refreshment table and Jason and I watched as he investigated. He came back feeling better that he could tell the difference between tea and lemonade!

They also gave out awards. Kyle received the Writer's Award because, his teacher said, "he could write and write all day long."

This afternoon we went to Kayla's 4th grade play, "Westward Ho!" It was about a pioneer family on the Oregon Trail. Kayla was a reader. She read from the diary of the pioneer girl in the family. Yes, Jess--that is your old dress from high school that Kayla has been using for dress-ups for years. She thought it would make a good pioneer skirt. What do you think?

PS: Kayla's back with her beloved glasses since I was silly enough to let her take out her contacts during a windy soccer game. I held it up to put it back in, and, surprise (duh!), it blew away. Since Kayla has hated her contacts since day 1, we've decided to let her have her glasses at the risk of her eyes getting worse (and we don't want to pay for more contacts). She thinks maybe in a few years she'll try contacts again. We'll see!

What fun pictures. I can't believe the school year is almost over. Maybe we could get together during the summer.
