A little of this and that...

Well, let's start with bread! I'm so excited I made 100% whole wheat bread for the first time ever last week. I make bread a lot, but it's usually 1/2 wheat flour and 1/2 white flour. Well, I found a recipe on this website my friend Jill sent me (thank you!), and decided to try it. I had to borrow my sister's wheat grinder to start, because I've never ground my own wheat before either. We are definitely going to need to get a wheat grinder. This bread was awesome! It wasn't awesome like, you-want-to-eat-it-for-dessert awesome (like white bread in our family), but it was awesome like, the-expensive-wheat-sandwhich-bread-from-the-store,save-alot-of-money awesome! (In case you want the recipe, it's link is below my blog links on the left, called THE PERFECT CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE).

Next on our list of updates: I was able to join Kyle for lunch last week as he and his classmates read the fairy tales they had written and bound in a book. It was fun to be there with him and to hear his creative story.

Well, last Sunday BETTER have been our last snow day for the season! I don't mind snow but it's worn out it's welcome with me this winter. Of course, Kyle isn't sick of it. He made this snowman Sunday morning, then with his cousin Hunter (and some help from Jason), he made this snow cave. He was a little frustrated the next morning when the opening to the cave was about 1/4 of the size, and by the time he got home the cave was gone with only a little bit of snow even left in that spot. But they sure worked hard it!

The girls all stayed inside and had fun with Kayla's newest dollar store find-- some sort of mix between silly putty and clay...

Last tuesday Rachel and I went to the library for the regular story time, and since she was 5 now, we thought maybe she could get her own library card. She was able to and thinks it's just the greatest. I sewed a little patch into her library bag to hold it so it won't get lost. Also, we were able to ride our bikes to the library (yes, this was two days after the snow storm). This is the farthest she's ever ridden on her own bike, so she was pretty excited (it's about 6 blocks each way or so). I hoping she'll be able to make the ride to the pool this summer instead of riding behind me in the cart!

This past friday was our church's annual Teacher Appreciation Dinner. Each child could nominate two teachers, who were invited to join us for dinner, entertainment, and tributes. Both of Rachel's preschool teachers were able to come, and she had the best time with them.

Kyle only wanted to invite his teacher Miss Selsor. I was so glad she was able to come. They sat together and had a good time. Unfortunately, Kayla's teachers were not able to come, but her good friend came with her Mom who was a nominated teacher, so she had fun anyway.

Early Saturday morning we traveled to the Temple in St. Louis. Here is a picture of the sunrising as we got off the exit for the temple.

This beautiful picture is hanging in the waiting area at the temple. It is based on the scripture Revelation 3:20 "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." It was so cute because Kyle and Rachel were running around in circles (no one else was in there), and Rachel pointed to the picture, and said, "Mommy, look!" I acknowledged what she was pointing at, and she said, "(while still running around), "we let Him in, didn't we?" What a sweety. --One of those few moments of joy when I realize that one of my children has actually listened, understood, and taken to heart, something we've taught!

And now, because I believe in being honest and forthright in all things, I'll tell you Kyle's response to Rachel's comment. He (while still running around) said, "What kind of dummy doesn't put a doorknob on the door?" What a rascal! He also knows what it's about, but often chooses to say the opposite of what he knows we want to hear. I sure love him anyway.
