A Happy Halloween!

We had a full and fun holiday weekend. Rachel had a nursery rhyme party at preschool and this is her dressed as Jill from "Jack and Jill went up the hill...

While she was at preschool, I got to go to Kyle's class party. Here's Kyle with his best bud Conner. Kyle is dressed as a Star Wars character that he borrowed from his cousin. Jengo Fett or Boba Fett, or something like that...

That afternoon, some cousins and friends came over and we went trick-or-treating up and down main street to all the businesses. It was COLD and WINDY but we had a good time. In fact, I laughed so hard I cried thanks to my buddy Jonathon. He's dressed as superman. He and his aunt Heather, who's a friend of mine, came with us. Jonathon is autistic, and you can't know him without loving him. He lives with his Aunt and Grandma, so he gets a little confused about families. He always asks, "who's my mom today?" So me and my sister Jen and his Aunt were there, and we all volunteered to be his moms on friday. And my kids and the Day kids were his brothers and sisters. We all had fun going up and down town, and Jonathon cheered everyone as he wished them "Happy Halloween!" Well, this is a small town and someone from the local newspaper was there taking pictuers. Jonathon noticed and asked the photographer to take a picture of him with his "moms." The photographer of course obliged; it's hard to argue with him. It was all good and fine and as we walked a little further, the photography asked Jen her kids names because he had taken a picture of one of them. Jonathon saw this and stopped him and asked him to "write this down." He told him that he was here with his 2 moms, no wait, his 3 moms, and all of his brothers and sisters... I started cracking up. The way he said it was so serious and I sure hope the photographer realized he was joking. Who know what great newspaper story could come from that! But, it was fun to laugh, and I realized it's been a long time since I've laughed that hard. I need more laughter in my life.

That evening we went to our church Harvest Party. We got home and the kids were noticing we hadn't carved our pumpkin yet. I was exhausted but Jason's so awesome and helped them carve it. Rachel got a little pumpkin from preschool and we all thought it would be fun to put it inside the big one! Kyle of course drew 3-4 whole pages with lots of jack-o-lantern designs on them, even when Jason was carving. Kyle says he wishes every day could be Halloween, because "you can dress up and get lots of candy!"

Here's Kyle with his mask on. He didn't want to wear it trick-or-treating because he couldn't see well with it on.

The evening of Halloween we went to Jen's house in Higginsville; their town trick-or-treating was on Saturday. They had games also in the street. We had yummy soup and played games. Thanks, Jen for making me laugh even more, and for letting us borrow these great costumes. In case you can't tell, Rachel is Sleeping Beauty, Kyle of course, Star Wars, and Kayla is a Victorian Princess.
